14th July Poole to Hampton Hill

 We make the most of our room at The Sandbanks Hotel.  It has a balcony overlooking Poole Harbour and a bathroom with an actual bath and a heated towel rail which actually works.

I have a 'full Dorset' breakfast which makes a welcome change from the Durdle Door continental breakfasts.

We stop for petrol and coffee at Winchester.

It is raining.

  Drove to Shaldon. Parked at Ness Hotel. Friday 11th April 2025

  As we check out, sewage is appearing in our toilet.   We do feel we are leaving a sinking ship. We are encouraged by the thought that we are now liberated from the A303 and its bottlenecks.   Instead we take A35/A31 to the M27, expecting to do it in a much shorter time.   This proves not to be.   The traffic is very slow and it ends up taking just as long as driving from West Hill.   We are home for a late lunch.  We have lots going on in May and June, so our next SWCP session will be July or August.  Poole? Monday 16th September

  Top picture: visitor to our hotel balcony Middle picture: The front at Shaldon Bottom picture Mike on Maidencombe beach.  Smile wiped off his face a few minjutes later when he discovers the puncture. We check out of the hotel and go for a last coffee on the Shaldon seafront.  n either of us check the room properly and a charger gets left behind.   The first of many disasters on this day, probably our worst ever on the SWCP   and we are not even walking! We are spending the night at Becky’s in West Hill, Ottery St Mary, but we are not expected until tea time.   We plan a nice lazy day starting with a visit to National Trust Compton Castle followed by a pub lunch at the Thatched pub in Maidencombe.   We get to the castle – closed on Mondays.   Then drive to Maidencombe.   The pub is closed on Mondays.   Never mind.   The beach café is open and we have a sandwich there.
